Content-rich Curriculum and Instruction

When you visit our classrooms at MCHR, you’ll hear students being asked about and engaging in rigorous content. We believe, and a growing body of research supports, that what you teach is just as important–and perhaps more important–than how you teach it. We use national standards to choose the best curriculum for our students that exposes them to content, literature, and essential skills in math, science, and the arts. Our central network team creates supplemental materials and provides professional development to teachers to ensure that they have the tools they need to plan and teach effectively.

Early Childhood Education Program

Based on the latest research on child development and national standards, MCHR’s early childhood program provides students with the skills to thrive in elementary school and beyond. The early childhood program utilizes hands-on learning centers, a dynamic range of teaching and learning techniques, and innovative methods of monitoring children’s progress. Every day, our students are challenged by our teachers and engage in a curriculum that includes math, literacy, science, social studies, technology, religion, art, music, creative drama and movement and physical education. Children participate in school-wide activities and field trips throughout the year.

Extended Day

All students in grades K-8 at MCHR are on an extended day schedule. Regular dismissal time on Mondays—Thursdays is 4:00 pm. On Fridays, students are dismissed at 2:30 pm, and teachers participate in staff development workshops.

Our extended day increases student-teacher interaction and allows for more in-depth lessons and projects. The hope is that this extra time spent on core academics will assist in enhancing achievement, retention and interest in these subjects. The extended day also replaces time that students would have been spent unsupervised after-school with constructive, safe learning.
