Mt.
Carmel-Holy Rosary has a long
history of
educating children in East
Harlem. It first opened in 1949 and today the school serves Pre-K3 through
eighth grade students from the neighborhood
as well as students whose parents work
in the area.
As a small Catholic
school with one class per grade, Mt.
Carmel-Holy Rosary feels like
a close-knit family. At Mt. Carmel we
believe that each student has the potential
to achieve and succeed. All children
are offered the individual attention
they deserve in our constructive, nurturing,
and safe environment. Students receive daily instruction in Catholic beliefs, values and traditions.
Our Mission Statement:
Inspired by the compassionate care of the Blessed Mother, our patroness, Mt. Carmel-Holy Rosary exists to provide outstanding academic programs combining the best of current teaching and technology within a structured environment. We engage allstudents in the creative arts affording them a variety of opportunities for self-expression and personal growth in a culturally diverse setting.
Above all else, we inspire our children to experience a personal encounter with God through prayer, service to others and an understanding of the moral truths of the Catholic Church. Thus, all members of our learning community dedicate themselves to the service of the Gospel to teach as Jesus did.

| Test Scores Demonstrate Strong Academics |
Under the strong
leadership of principal Suzanne Kaszynski,
MCHR has undergone a total revitalization and students are achieving across disciplines. The school has implemented an Extended
Day program with classes ending at
4:00pm, instead of the earlier dismissal time of 2:30pm.
This allows for increased instructional
time, particularly in Math and Reading.

Based on their performance on the New York State Examinations, MCHR students continue to outperform their peers in local public, private, and parochial schools. The chart to the left highlights the percent of MCHR students who passed the 2011 New York State Examinations with subject proficiency.
Mt. Carmel-Holy Rosary has established itself as a school with a strong arts program. Through Education Through Music, the school was invited to host famous musician Joshua Bell on two occassions - in December of 2006 and in May of 2009 (see picture below). The high caliber violin, vocal and percussion instruction as well as the successful Creative Classrooms Visual Art Program are complemented by ballroom dance.
Since partnering with Pierre Dulaine’s American Ballroom Theater, all 4th, 5th, and 8th graders at Mt. Carmel-Holy Rosary School learn the same dance steps featured in the famous 2005 documentary Mad Hot Ballroom. Twice a week, professional dance instructors teach the students the many complicated steps of the merengue, tango, salsa, foxtrot, rumba and swing. In 2011, MCHR's 8th grade dance team won gold place at the Dancing Classrooms dance competition, held at the World Financial Center.
